Recipe for Instant Peace

I've created a recipe for instant peace that works for me.  It's quite simple and just requires that you pay attention and remain aware of your thoughts.  Here it is:

Ingredients:

* One part of staying in the present moment (the now)

* One part of minding your own business

* One part of positive thoughts and words (eliminate the negative thoughts and words)

Mix all ingredients and serve on a plate of gratitude. 

To enjoy this recipe, simply notice when you are feeling anxious or stressed and ask yourself these questions: 1. Is this my business?  2. Is this happening right now?  3. Is this a positive or negative thought?  Once you get clear about this, remind yourself of at least one thing that you are grateful for to supercharge your peaceful feeling.

Going Back, Moving Forward

Recently I was on a fabulous holiday and as the end neared, I started thinking about 'going back' - going back home, back to business, back to life before the holiday.  That thought didn't seem so appealing so I started wondering if there was another perspective I could take.

Then I realized that even when you go "back" you are really going "forward" -  this gave me a great feeling and I starting seeing how this applies to so many other things in life besides the end of a holiday. 

We are always moving forward and that is exciting!

Maybe you've heard about the three R's: Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.  Well, those are very important and good to know.  And I've got three new R's that I think you'll like much more!

Do You Really "Have" To?

Do you ever find yourself saying, "I have to do..." and you feel like you really don't want to do whatever it is you have to do?  Another perspective is that you always have a choice.  And instead saying you have to, you can simply say, "I am going to do..." or even better, "I want to do ..." - I mean if you are going to do it anyway, why not feel good about the choice to do it?  Just a thought.

The Voice in Your Head

Awareness is usually the first step involved in making changes and shifting perspectives.  This is also true when trying to discover who you are.  This quote by Eckhart Tolle from his book, Stillness Speaks, provides another way of looking your thoughts.

The Power of Minding Your Own Business

Paying attention to what is happening in your own life is critical to creating a successful life.  Think about, how much time do you spend contemplating what other people should be doing?  Start paying attention to your thoughts and you may find that it is more often than you realized.  The next time you catch yourself in someone else's business, just stop.  Accept that they are quite capable of minding their business themselves and turn your attention to your own business.  After all, how can you possible know what is best for someone else?  Do you like it when other people presume to know what is best for you?  Didn't think so.

Besides, we all have more than enough of our 'own business' to manage and our own business is the only business we can ultimately do anything about.  A fabulous book I highly recommend regarding this, and many other subjects, is Loving What Is by Byron Katie.  Her website is http://www.thework.com.
